the text reads;

The artist has decided not to apply for funding for this exhibition to a public arts funds due to reasons of morality, ethics and trust.

Who are they?
What are they doing there?
Why are they there?

The artist doesn’t trust she would receive the funding even if the application is successful. She believes no reason would be given.

The artist believes she could receive the funding a year after the end of the exhibition after it being found hidden in a private bank account. The artist cannot wait this long. The artist has to pay her rent and bills.

The artist fears she might have the funding revoked for failure on her part to present an invoice which she could not procure, end up in hospital due to stress and thereafter live with a heart condition.

The artist is suspicious that the decision not to be given funding would be decided before she submits her application.

The artist is not willing to adopt a subservient position.

The artist refuses to scratch anyone’s back so they scratch hers.

The artist does not have any other interests to be subservient to other than her work.

It was suggested to the artist that she asks for money to fund this exhibition from someone who has once been suspected in being involved in a murder plot.

The artist may or may not make the work for this space. The artist has to look for money somewhere else. Therefore the artist may decide to make the work in another place where there is an art market and the work is more likely to sell. This way, she would also not have to pay the shipping and insurance costs for the work’s transportation and instead pay her rent and bills.
